Hello everybody, it’s Drew, welcome to my recipe site. Today, I will show you a way to make a special dish, shepherd pie. One of my favorites food recipes. This time, I will make it a little bit unique. This is gonna smell and look delicious.
Shepherd pie is one of the most well liked of recent trending foods in the world. It’s appreciated by millions daily. It is simple, it is quick, it tastes delicious. Shepherd pie is something which I have loved my whole life. They are fine and they look wonderful.
Yes, shepherd's pie is predominantly thought of as Irish or British. But since I'm Scottish, I thought I'd give it a unique twist to suit my ancestral tastes. The use of lamb, the smoky, heather taste of Guinness® Draught (Irish, I admit), and the topping of sharp Cheddar and smoked paprika give this version its unique, smoky-sweet flavor.
To get started with this particular recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can have shepherd pie using 8 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.
The ingredients needed to make Shepherd pie:
- Get 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- Prepare 4 cups mashed potatoes
- Prepare 2 1/2 cups mixed vegetables
- Get 4 cans refrigerated biscuits
- Prepare 2 cups brown gravy
- Make ready 2 tablespoons salt
- Make ready 1 tablespoon coarse ground pepper
- Make ready 1 tablespoon onion powder
Unlike other shepherd's pie recipes, this one calls for frozen vegetables instead of fresh and can be made the day before. Traditionally, shepherd's pie is made with lamb (hence the name). Cover with at least an inch of cold water. Shepherd's pie is traditionally made with a ground-lamb filling, but we make ours with ground beef.
Instructions to make Shepherd pie:
- Line deep baking dish with biscuits. Let them set while doing other steps
- Brown ground beef. Cook mixed vegetables, adding seasoning. Combine vegetables with ground beef in mixing bowl. Mix.
- Spoon 1/2 vegetable/meat mixture onto biscuits. Drizzle with 1/2 of gravy. At this time preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Add a layer of mashed potatoes, using about 1/3. Add second layer of vegetables/meat and top with gravy. Cover with rest of mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 15 minutes and then broil for 15 or until potato topping is golden brown.
The sauce is really simple and flavorful, but the best part is the insanely fluffy mashed potato. So, this is how you spell it: Shepherd's Pie. But, from doing a quick google search, it came to my attention that TONS of people think it's Shepards Pie. Traditional Irish Shepherd's Pie would actually call for ground lamb. The difference between Shepherd's Pie and Cottage Pie is the meat.
